As the holy month of Ramadhan continues to unite Muslims worldwide in prayer, reflection, and generosity, Al-Waasi Charity Foundation once again stepped forward to embody the true spirit of “Sharing is Caring.” On Saturday, 21st February 2026, we successfully hosted our annual Ramadhan Iftar & Suhoor Food Distribution at our headquarters along Kisaasi-Bahai Road in Kisaasi, Kampala.

What started as a simple act of kindness quickly grew into a powerful community gathering that touched the lives of 200 vulnerable families. Here’s the full story of a day filled with compassion, smiles, and lasting impact.

Bringing Dignity to Fasting Families

For many families in our community, the month of Ramadhan brings both spiritual reward and practical challenges. Preparing Iftar (the meal to break the fast) and Suhoor (the pre-dawn meal) can become a heavy burden when resources are limited.

Recognizing this reality, Al-Waasi Charity organized a meticulously planned distribution event designed to ease that burden. Our goal was clear: ensure that every participating family could observe their fast with dignity, ease, and peace of mind.

From early morning, our dedicated team of volunteers worked tirelessly at the headquarters. The atmosphere was electric with purpose — laughter, greetings, and the unmistakable energy of people coming together for a greater cause.

What Each Family Received

Every beneficiary walked away with a carefully curated food package containing essential staples perfect for both Iftar and Suhoor meals:

  • High-quality rice
  • Maize flour
  • Beans
  • Sugar
  • Cooking oil

These packages were not just food — they were a symbol of community care. Over 200 packages were packed and distributed on the day, with each one thoughtfully prepared to last a family through several days of fasting.

Who We Supported: 200 Families, Many Stories

The distribution specifically targeted the most vulnerable members of society. A total of 200 families benefited, including:

  1. Refugees seeking safety and stability in Uganda
  2. Orphans who have lost parental support
  3. Widows carrying the responsibility of raising children alone
  4. Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) facing extra daily challenges
  5. Less fortunate members of the local community struggling to make ends meet

Each story we heard was unique, yet united by one common thread — gratitude for the support that allowed them to focus on worship rather than worry.

Guest of Honour: Sheikh Umar Baker’s Inspiring Words

We were deeply honoured to host Sheikh Umar Baker as our Guest of Honour. Walking with grace and wisdom, Sheikh Umar expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to witness and participate in the distribution.

In his remarks, he praised Al-Waasi Charity’s dedication to supporting vulnerable groups and encouraged everyone present to continue spreading generosity, unity, and heartfelt compassion throughout the remainder of Ramadhan and beyond. His presence added a beautiful spiritual dimension to the entire event.

A Day Captured in Pictures: Gallery Highlights

The joy of the day was beautifully documented through powerful images:

  • Neat rows of white branded Al-Waasi packages lined up across the green compound
  • Volunteers smiling as they carefully packed and handed out bags
  • Beneficiaries — women in colourful hijabs, families on motorcycles, elderly gentlemen — collecting their packages with visible relief and happiness
  • Sheikh Umar Baker walking through the grounds, greeting community members
  • Groups sitting together, children playing nearby, and the entire community coming alive with purpose

These moments captured the heart of Al-Waasi Charity: real people, real impact.

More Than Just Food: Building Community

While the food packages were the highlight, the true magic happened in the moments between. Families gathered, shared experiences, exchanged smiles, and strengthened bonds. Volunteers in bright safety vests moved among the crowd, offering not only supplies but also warm conversations and genuine care.

The event became a living reminder that Ramadhan is about more than individual fasting — it is about togetherness, empathy, and collective upliftment.
