Kiburara Primary School Project

Challenge

In the rural region of Kasese, Western Uganda, Kiburara Primary School faced severe infrastructural challenges. The existing school facilities were dilapidated, with crumbling classrooms, inadequate sanitation, and a lack of proper learning spaces. This environment hindered effective education for over 200 children, many of whom are from vulnerable Muslim families in the community. The poor state of the school threatened to perpetuate cycles of poverty and limited opportunities for these children.

Our Approach

Al Waasi Charity, inspired by the Prophet Mohammed’s acts of charity and the teachings of the Holy Quran, initiated a comprehensive school-building project for Kiburara Primary School in 2025. Our approach included:

  • Construction of New Classrooms: We built four modern, fully equipped classrooms to accommodate the growing number of students and provide a conducive learning environment.
  • Sanitation Facilities: We installed clean water systems and gender-segregated latrines to improve hygiene and ensure student safety.
  • Community Engagement: We collaborated with local Muslim community leaders and parents to ensure the project aligned with their needs and fostered a sense of ownership.
  • Educational Support: Alongside infrastructure, we provided learning materials, including books and desks, to enhance the quality of education.

The project was funded through generous donations from our supporters and executed with transparency and accountability, in line with our core values.

Outcome

The Kiburara Primary School project has transformed the educational landscape for the community in Kasese:

  • Improved Learning Environment: Over 200 children now study in safe, modern classrooms, boosting attendance and engagement.
  • Enhanced Health and Hygiene: The new sanitation facilities have reduced waterborne illnesses and created a healthier school environment.
  • Empowered Community: The project has strengthened community cohesion, with parents and local leaders actively participating in the school’s ongoing development.
  • Brighter Futures: With better facilities and resources, students have greater opportunities to excel academically, breaking the cycle of poverty for many families.

This project reflects Al Waasi Charity’s commitment to uplifting vulnerable Muslim communities in Uganda through sustainable, faith-inspired initiatives.
