Programmer Overview
Alwaasi Charity is proud to launch the Borehole Project, an innovative initiative to provide sustainable, clean water to underprivileged communities in Uganda. By installing solar-powered boreholes, we aim to ensure accessible, safe water for all, particularly people with disabilities (PWD), the elderly, and children. This project aligns with our mission to uplift vulnerable populations through sustainable solutions, fostering health, dignity, and opportunity..
The Challenge
Access to clean water remains a critical issue in many Ugandan communities. Women and children often walk long distances to fetch water from unsafe sources, exposing them to waterborne diseases like typhoid and dysentery. People with disabilities and the elderly face even greater barriers, as traditional water sources are often inaccessible due to physical limitations or distance. Additionally, reliance on manual pumps or inconsistent water systems strains communities, particularly during dry seasons, exacerbating poverty and health challenges.
Our Solution
-
Accessible Design: Boreholes are equipped with easy-to-use taps and ramps to accommodate PWD, the elderly, and children. -
Solar Power: Eco-friendly solar panels power the pumps, reducing operational costs and environmental impact. -
Community-Centered Approach: We collaborate with local leaders to identify high-need areas and train community members to maintain the boreholes, ensuring long-term sustainability. By prioritizing underprivileged communities, we address both immediate water needs and systemic barriers to access.
Expected Results/Achievements
-
Improved Health: Access to clean water will reduce waterborne diseases, improving community health outcomes, especially for children and the elderly. -
Enhanced Accessibility: PWD and the elderly will gain independent access to water, promoting dignity and inclusion. -
Time and Economic Benefits: Reduced time spent fetching water will allow women and children to focus on education and income-generating activities. -
Sustainability: Solar-powered systems ensure a reliable, cost-effective water supply, with trained locals maintaining the infrastructure for years to come. -
Community Empowerment: At least 5,000 individuals across targeted communities will benefit from each borehole, fostering resilience and opportunity.
How You Can Help
Your support can help us provide clean, safe water to thousands of families in rural Uganda who are suffering from waterborne diseases and long, dangerous walks for water. Join us in this life-saving mission:
- Donate: Every contribution brings us closer to drilling a new borehole and giving an entire village access to clean water for generations.
- Sponsor a Full Borehole: Take the reward of providing water for an entire community. Manual deep well, rig drilled costs approximately UGX 10Million($2,900). Solar panel borehole with a 10,000ltr tank costs UGX 20 million($5,700).
Contact us to dedicate it in your name or in memory of a loved one. - Get Involved: Share our water campaign, organize a fundraiser with your family or masjid, or volunteer on the ground during borehole commissioning and handover ceremonies.

Together, we can turn tears of struggle into smiles of relief and earn the endless reward of Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity) as long as people drink from the borehole you helped build.
