Programme Overview

Rooted in the charitable principles of the Holy Quran and the compassionate legacy of Prophet Mohammed, Al Waasi Charity’s Skilling and Empowerment Program equips women in Uganda’s Muslim communities with practical skills and resources to achieve financial independence and self-reliance. Launched in 2018, this program focuses on empowering women through vocational training and startup support, fostering economic resilience and community upliftment.

Our Objectives



  • Build Vocational Skills: Train women in marketable skills such as baking, soap making, candle making, and sewing to create sustainable income sources.


  • Provide Startup Resources: Supply materials and capital, including sewing machines and salon equipment, to help women launch small businesses.


  • Promote Economic Empowerment: Enable women to support their families and contribute to their communities through financial independence.


  • Strengthen Community Bonds: Deliver accessible training in local settings to foster collaboration and mutual support among participants.

What We Do



  • Vocational Training Workshops: We conduct weekly training sessions every Saturday at our office or in participants’ communities, teaching skills like baking, soap making, candle making, and sewing. These hands-on workshops are led by experienced trainers and tailored to local market demands.


  • Startup Support: We provide women with essential materials, such as sewing machines, salon kits, and baking supplies, along with small grants for startup capital to help them establish micro-businesses.


  • Community-Based Learning: To ensure accessibility, we bring training to rural communities when needed, allowing women to learn in familiar environments alongside their peers.


  • Mentorship and Follow-Up: We offer ongoing guidance to participants, helping them navigate challenges, refine their skills, and grow their businesses.
